Daily Quote: "For marathoners, the basic guideline is to not do double workouts until you've maximized the amount you're running in single workouts. If you're preparing for a marathon and are running less than 75 miles a week, then you shouldn't regularly be running doubles." --Pete Pfitzinger
Early AM (before bedtime) My first easy double run for the year.
3 miles. Time, 29 minutes. Overall pace: 9:40 minute miles. Life Fitness Treadmill on the cardio training mode setting where the elevation automatically changes to keep my heart rate at a constant 144 bpm (75% of maximum heart rate). Treadmill speed set at 6.1 mph. Elevation changes: 2.9 - 2.5 grades. A real struggle motivating myself to reach the gym immediately after work, I kept telling myself, it's only 3 miles, JUST 3 miles and I can go to bed.
Later AM (after 7 hours of sleep) Tempo Run.
10 miles. Time, 1:26 minutes. Overall pace, 8:36 minute miles. Life Fitness Treadmill set at 1% grade. Warm up: 2 mile @ 6.0 mph. Tempo: 6 miles at 7.8 mph (7:42 minute miles). Cool down: 2 mile @ 6.0 mph. Average heart rate: 165 bpm (85% of maximum heart rate). Cardiac Drift during tempo: 183 bpm (95% of maximum heart rate.) Legs feel like lead, tomorrow will definitely be a Recovery Run! Didn't have much time to interact on the computer today...tomorrow I'll play catch up.
